Perfume sampler collection

When I was 5 years old, my mom gave me this adorable little vintage heart box. For the past decade or so, I've been using it to hold a collection of magazine perfume samplers. From the mixing of the various scents, which I switch out every now and then, it's become my own little signature perfume. I wish I could bottle it up and wear it everyday, it just smells so pretty.

It's gorgeous outside today! Sunny and a little breezy. I shot these pictures on the deck out back and then laid out on the front yard for a little while. Now that I've done that, I think I'm gonna go to the park and kick around my soccer ball for a bit. Happy Wednesday!

It's not always sunshine and rainbows

I’m not in the best of moods today. I’ve been feeling really stressed out lately. July is fast approaching and that means I have that much less time to find a job. One of my friends, who was also a Psych major like me and did a little better than me in school, is also on the job hunt and was recently passed over for a position she applied for. It kind of makes me feel like if even the best of us can’t find a job, then what are the rest of us supposed to do?

I know that it takes time and that it’s tough out there right now, though. A lot of my friends haven’t found jobs yet either.  I guess I’m just feeling the pressure a little bit more strongly because I know I have a deadline to find something in order to stay here come fall.

I’m trying to keep myself busy and always doing something so that I don’t think about it too much, but I’ll admit I’m scared. It’s not easy being in a state of limbo and waking up each day knowing things are still up in the air and nothing’s set in stone. We also haven’t had any good weather here in Columbus for a couple weeks now. I feel like a little sunlight might help elevate my mood. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little better. This feels a little bit like a case of the Mondays.

Overcoming bad habits

I have this really bad habit of biting my nails. I've been doing it since I was about 5 years old. For me, it's something I do mostly when I'm stressed or anxious about something (such as an exam or paper) and sometimes when I'm just bored. I pick at my nails and cuticles moreso than bite them, but nevertheless, it's obviously not good for my nails or my teeth.

I've actually chipped my bottom middle tooth twice because of biting my nails. Once sometime last year and most recently, this past week. I went to the dentist on Thursday to get my tooth filled/fixed and now it's fine, but I know I have to get serious about stopping this terrible habit.

I've attempted to stop several times by letting my nails grow out a little and paint them with nail polish, but that hasn't worked for me because I like keeping my nails short. Trimming/filing them also hasn't worked for me because it doesn't offer the same stress relief, for some reason, as nailbiting/picking does. I think I'm going to try getting some nailbiting-specific nail polish that tastes disgusting. Maybe that'll help kick this bad habit...

Do you have any bad habits that you've overcome or are having trouble overcoming? What's helped and what hasn't?

The calm before the storm: more backyard photography

It always gets so pretty here outside before it rains and I wanted to capture some of the natural beauty of my neighborhood surroundings in all its arboretum-esque glory before the storm hits.

Things I Like Thursday: Randoms

This week's things edition of Things I Like Thursday focuses on random, not-something-you-see-every-day stuff. Here we go!
This bird feeder with an attached umbrella. How thoughtful!
This onesie with dust-collecting fabric that not only cleans the floors, but keeps the baby's onesie clean as well. Killing two birds with one stone.
Adorable rainboots for an equally adorable piglet
A turtle-shaped fruit display
Window shutter-covered walls. Unique indeed.
A cocktail umbrella wreath, perfect for the summertime
Perfect towel to use in the guys' locker room haha
This awesome mountainside-attachable bed/mattress. That would be one amazing view to wake up to. Nevermind the possible dangers/threat of death.
This really cool rolling pin

Any other single bloggers out there?

It seems like everyone in the blogosphere is either in a relationship or married. Am I the only the single one out there? How many of you are single? Are you happy? I’m happy being single right now. Things are sort of up in there air for me at the moment as far as where I’ll be in a couple of months.

I’m trying to find a job/fellowship/service project, etc. – something that’ll be able to keep me here in my college town and live with my BFF/roommate (*keeping my fingers crossed*). But if I can’t find anything by the time my lease is up at the end of this summer, I’ll have to move back home with the parents. :/

The point is that I don’t want a relationship right now because of the uncertainty of my future whereabouts. Job status aside, though, I’m also happy being single/playing the field/meeting new people. Now that college is over and a lot of my friends are leaving/already gone, my main focus socially is just to expand my circle a little bit and make new friends. If I meet someone I like, great. If not, that’s fine too.

What’s your relationship status? Do you like where you’re at?

Etsy love feature: vintage orange

Here's a collection of some lovely vintage orange Etsy items. My favorites are the dress and little mason jars. Too cute!

Cute new shoes on the cheap

Today I received an adorable pair of vintage oxford heels in the mail that I purchased on Friday from Pineapple Mint. (If you recall, PM is one of my favorite Etsy shops, mentioned in this post.) The shoes were only $5.75! Can you believe it?! I think I'm in love with them. :)

I also recently purchased and received the Blowfish Java Boots in dark brown, marked down from $59 to $33. Good deals all around.
